DEBORAH MAIZELS
Deborah Maizels, 6th Dan, began practicing Aikido in 1973 at the Aikido Institute,
Oakland where her instructors included Bill Witt Sensei, Hoa Newens Sensei, and Kim
Peuser Sensei. In the ’80s she trained as an uchi-deshi and as a soto-deshi with
Morihiro Saito Sensei in Iwama, returning in 2015 and 2017 to train with Inagaki Sensei.
She has been an instructor at the Aikido Institute since 1986.
GINNY BREELAND
Began training in 1978 under Dr. Williams Morris, later with Dennis Tatoian at the
famous “chicken coop dojo”, and finally, for 20 years+ with Hans Goto Shihan at Bay
Marin Aikido. She co-founded Cotati Aikido with her husband, Pete, and has taught
there going on 20 years. She also writes for the FB page ‘Aikido Advice for Women
…and a Few Men’.
